Overview

I observed an open-heart surgery at Allegheny General Hospital and studied the roles of each person working on the procedure, from the anesthesiologists to the nurses to the technicians. Afterwards, I met with the surgeon to answer questions.

Having the ability to witness a patient with severe heart issues receive proper medical care was amazing. I was captivated watching surgeons meticulously working with the heart and surrounding blood vessels with precision to avoid damaging the surrounding organs.

While observing this surgery, I realized my dream of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon.
