About Me
DEVOTED TO A LIFE OF SERVICE
My name is Juliana Knox, and I am a student at Avonworth High School. My interest in science and medicine began when I was in elementary school and continues growing stronger as I learn more. In 11th grade, I joined the Pathway of Health and Medicine to formalize my training and support my dream of becoming a doctor. I was able to gain in-depth medical knowledge and gain valuable hands-on experience.
My Career Aspirations
CARDIOTHORACIC SURGEON
My father is an engineer and my mother is in marketing, yet I want to be a surgeon. As a first-generation aspiring medical student, my parents and mentors are my greatest advocates but have no medical training. How did I get here? One day while channel-surfing, I discovered “Untold Stories of the ER.” Watching the doctors and their skill identifying then resolving patient concerns was thrilling. I realized that my life purpose was to enter the medical field and help others.
Recently, I found my passion for surgical procedures. Observing my first heart surgery, I was amazed by the doctors having the skill to stop a man’s heart and then start it again. In those moments, I knew that I wanted to be one of those surgeons making this complex procedure look magic. I believe my purpose in life is to gain the skills and ability to perform life-saving procedures every day. Watching that group of medical professionals work together to save a man’s life after a potentially fatal blockage, changed my life forever. If asked today what I want to be in the future, my answer will be a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
